August 28 – 29, 2010 – Tabor Legacy Weekend
Discover the Tabors and experience their turbulent history. With guide Fred Mark, geologist and mining history enthusiast, visit from start to finish the Leadville sites that made and broke the Tabors. Beginning with their placer claims and ending at the Matchless Mine and Baby Does Cabin, the tour also includes the Augusta's home, the Little Pitsburgh, and the Tabor Opera House. A hearty lunch and transportation are provided, as well as free admission into the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. Space limited. Tickets & Reservations Required.

Time: 8:30 am. Tour ends at roughly 3:30 pm.
Place: National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum Main Entrance
Cost:$55 non-museum members $50 museum members

Tabor Legacy Schedule
Stop 1 - National Mining Museum: Overview of the Leadville district; geologic history, load and placer mineral deposits.
Stop 2 - Dutch Henry Hill: The Tabor’s journey from the east to the discovery of California Gulch in the spring of 1860
Stop 3 - California Gulch: The discovery location and the Tabor’s claims 12 and 21 above. The boom and decline of placer mining 1860 to 1861. Tabors relocation to Montgomery. Beginning of load mining and the revival of California Gulch, Tabors return in 1868
Stop 4 - Lunch in Iowa Gulch: brief discussion of the rocks exposed on south side of Iowa Gulch
Stop 5 - California Gulch: discovery of Carbonates and their early development; from the 1860s to 1873Location of the Rock claim and development of carbonates from 1874 to the spring of 1878The 76 claim and the early history of Reiche, Hook in the District.
Stop 6 - Leadville: The carbonate boom 1876 to the spring of 1878 the Tabors prosperTabor’s new store in LeadvilleTour of the Tabor House

Sunday: Tickets to the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum and the Matchless are included but the sites will not be part of the formal tour.

PLANNING A CONVENTION OR MEETING?:

Our Convention Center is ready to serve your meeting needs with an auditorium that will seat over 100 people and a ballroom that will serve at least 350 people for a sit-down dinner or over 400 people sitting auditorium style. A catering kitchen is ready to stage your meals. Three breakout meeting rooms, each with a gas-fired log stove, will seat from 25 to 60 people comfortably. For your next meeting, consider a reception in the Museum prior to your meeting or dinner.

LEADVILLE MINER STATUE:

Limited editions of "The Leadville Miner 1" (1999) statue by renowned sculptor and 1997 Utah Artist of the Year, Gary Prazen, are now available at the Museum Gift Shop. This statue is the first in Prazen's Miner Statue Series; these statues will be available only through the Museum Gift Shop. For more information call the Gift Shop at (719)486-1229.
